CEO Gavin Darby goes back to school
CEO Gavin Darby will be swapping the boardroom for the classroom as he joins other food and grocery bosses returning to school to help students understand how lessons learnt both in and out of the classroom can help them in working life.
Business leaders from across retailing and manufacturing will join forces in support of the Institute of Grocery Distribution’s (IGD) Feeding Britain’s Future Schools Programme which is helping to teach 13 to 17-year-olds about the importance of employability skills needed to find work.
Ian Bowles, Head of Sustainability and External Affairs said: “It’s important that that we support our local communities, that’s why all our sites will be supporting this initiative. It’s a great opportunity for us to build on the success of Feeding Britain’s Future that saw us offer over 250 pre-employment training opportunities in 2014.”
In March Premier Foods volunteers attended 5 schools, with plans to visit 10 more throughout the course of 2015.
The FBF Schools Programme aims to reach 5,000 pupils by the end of November 2015. Commenting on the initiative Joanne Denney-Finch, IGD chief executive, said: “While it’s great that unemployment as a whole is falling, the number of unemployed young people still remains high. That’s why we want to help young people before they leave school and older unemployed people by providing them with training to assist in their job search.”
