NASUWT: Reckless deregulation is creating ‘Wild West’ in schools
Commenting on the findings of the investigation into the Priory Federation of Academies Trust published today, Chris Keates General Secretary of the NASUWT, the largest teachers' union said:
"The report's findings come as no surprise.
"It was inevitable that the programme of reckless deregulation, in which the Coalition Government and Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove are involved, eventually would result in significant abuses of taxpayers' money.
"One of the first acts of the Secretary of State was to abolish schools financial management standards.
"The influence and oversight of local authorities with regard to school finances has all but disappeared.
"Hardly a day goes by without another piece of essential regulation and guidance being either abolished or weakened.
"There was more law and order in the Wild West than there will be in the education system by the time this Secretary of State has finished."
