BASC will give the facts on fox snaring to members of the Welsh Assembly Government this morning.
Glynn Evans, BASC's head of game and deer management, will address a meeting of the Welsh Assembly Government's Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee.
The meeting is being held to discuss the use of snares in Wales following the submission of a petition to ban the manufacture, sale and use of snares in the principality by the League Against Cruel Sports.
Glynn Evans said: "I am looking forward to the opportunity to set the record straight on fox snares, which when used in accordance with best practice advice such as the Welsh Government’s code of practice are a humane and legal form of pest control and an important tool for conservation.
"Snares are a well-regulated widely-used tool for managing pest species in the countryside in situations where other methods would be impractical, ineffective or dangerous.
"Modern snares are designed to restrain; they have several built-in features such as stops, swivels and breakaway links to ensure animal welfare."
