Announcing the launch of The Great British Game Food Festival

Great British Game Week will have its own national festival for the first time this year.

Supported by The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) and the Countryside Alliance (CA), in partnership with events company Alexony Limited, the Great British Game Food Festival will bring together specialist game food producers and businesses in London to showcase this fast-developing sector.

The festival will be held at the world-renowned Borough Market in London on the 20th and 21st of November, and will aim to showcase the wide array of delicious, healthy, and sustainable foods available from a range of quality UK producers.

As interest in game meat continues to rise, with global market research organization, Mintel, reporting that the UK game market is expect to have annual sales of £143m by 2020, organisers are planning a host of demonstrations and tastings to showcase the versatility and sustainability of this food source.

Chris McNeil, Event Director at international events and marketing company, Alexony Limited said: “It’s high time we had a festival to celebrate the many wonderful food producers and suppliers in the UK game food industry.

“As an avid game food enthusiast it seemed the perfect way to launch the Great British Game Week.”

Alexony Managing Director, Stephen Alexander added:
“I love to cook and I love game food. When Chris brought this idea to me I was surprised there wasn’t something taking place already.”

“There was really only one place that we could stage a Game Food Festival which perfectly matched the values of everyone involved, and that was Borough Market! It’s a special place that is committed to the highest quality food, food that is carefully and sustainably sourced”

Timed to commence at the start of the Great British Game Week, which runs from November 21st to 27th 2016, the event is being supported by CA and BASC and their respective campaigns Game to Eat and Taste of Game.

The campaigns were set up to encourage consumers to eat more game meat; a wild and natural food source that is part of the UK’s heritage and is also a vibrant and modern addition to today’s lifestyles and good choices.

Annette Cole, Development Manager for Taste of Game said:
“We are delighted to be supporting this wonderful initiative, we hope many people will come along and celebrate great British game food, there is so much we can do to show just how delicious and varied this food is”

Game to Eat’s Jack Knott added:
“The Great British Game Food Festival is the perfect opportunity to launch the campaigns for British game and we will be supporting with great enthusiasm. Let’s hope together we can attract a wide and new audience to embark on a journey of discovery”

Over the course of the next few weeks there will be further information and details of the programme for the event announced on the official website for The Great British Game Food Festival – www.gamefoodlive.co.uk.

Ends.
