Julia Owen is running the 2015 London Marathon for MRSA Action UK

Jules and her husband Steve Owen have completed over 1,400 race miles and raised almost £4.5k for MRSA Action UK.  Jules is delighted to take part again this year and is still hoping that Steve may be able to get a space if anyone drops out.

Steve's dad Donald died in 2007 of multiple organ failure in hospital after a routine knee operation. He contracted meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, also known as MRSA. After 18 months of severe pain, the infection got into his blood, overpowered his vital organs and he sadly passed away.

MRSA Action UK aim to provide a patient voice to ensure that MRSA and antimicrobial resistance is kept high on the healthcare agenda. We are all volunteers supporting people affected by MRSA and other healthcare associated infections. Work involves raising awareness through supporting training programmes and providing literature and an online resource for patients, the public and care providers.  As a self-help group who have been affected by MRSA, we also help with government funded research to find ways of combating antimicrobial resistance, giving the patient perspective on what matters.

Jules and Steve are inspirational, pushing themselves to the limit, with the blisters to show it. This annual event is a fantastic way for people to get together to raise money for their chosen charities and raise the profile of the many worthwhile causes out there.

We are proud to have Jules running for us again this year, and we hope that Steve can get a last minute space. We know he will be there cheering Jules on and we will be watching too.

Good luck Jules!
