NASUWT comment on Ofsted report
Commenting on Ofsted’s report Children Missing Out on Education, Chris Keates, General Secretary of the NASUWT, the largest teachers’ union, said:
“Local authorities have a core responsibility for ensuring that all children receive a suitable education, but their ability to discharge this responsibility effectively has been systematically undermined by the Coalition Government.
“The coalition government’s structural reform has fragmented the school system and severed important links between schools and local authorities.
“Savage cuts to local authority budgets mean that capacity within local authority services to ensure that children are receiving a suitable education has been severely reduced.
“Once again it is children and young people who lose out as a result of the Coalition’s policies.
“Rather than attacking local authorities, Ofsted should be making recommendations on how the Coalition Government should support local authorities in ensuring that all children and young people can access their educational entitlements.”
