NUT: Vital that teaching profession consulted as widely as possible

In response to education minister's statement on local authorities.NUT Cymru Secretary, David Evans, said:

"We welcome the review and are pleased that the Minister has highlighted the concerns of the profession regarding to the lack of support schools have received in their achieving their aims. There has been a lack of consistency from local authorities and the rush to instigate regional consortia working has not helped and left many schools in limbo.

"What is important now is that the review reports back as soon as possible and we get on with the job of ensuring we have the best education system possible. We cannot allow this review to detract from the support schools need either now, or in the long term.

"It is vital that the profession is consulted as widely as possible to ensure that those who are actually teaching are part of the review process.”
