BASC: Shoot development day in Derbyshire

A shoot development day designed to give information and advice to people who run shoots and want to build up their practical experience will be held in Derbyshire on 4th August.

The day will be run by BASC staff who are also experienced gamekeepers and will cover topics including stock selection, release methods, pest control, feeding, cover crops and flight ponds. It will also look at best practice and the law, woodland management, flushing point management and success on shoot days.

Steve Bloomfield, BASC's Midlands director, said: "This is a unique opportunity to see a successful small DIY shoot at a time when poults and ducks have been released and cover crops are established. The day will be particularly valuable to part-time 'keepers trying to improve their shoot and those aspiring to run their own shoot.”

Participants will spend the day out on the shoot where practical demonstrations will take place. Places cost £70 for BASC members and £136 for non-members (The price for non-members includes one year's BASC membership). Lunch is included.

The day will be run by Steve Bloomfield and BASC's head of game and gamekeeping Glynn Evans who have 30 and 25 years' gamekeeping experience respectively .

For more information and to book, contact the BASC Midland regional centre on 01889 565050.
