NASUWT: Figures cast further doubt on the reliability of the inspection system
Commenting on the school inspection outcome figures published today by Ofsted, Chris Keates, General Secretary of the NASUWT, the largest teachers’ union, said:
“The Ofsted inspection framework was only revised in January and each change to the framework has always resulted in the number of schools deemed to be underperforming increasing.
“Rather than any indication that standards are falling, what these statistics call into question is Ofsted’s methodology. There seems to be wide variation in teachers’ and schools leaders’ experiences of inspection.
“How can schools, parents and the public rely on the judgements of an inspection system with such huge inconsistencies?
“The UK has been judged by the OECD as one of the top 20 performing nations in the world in education and these results throw the reliability of Ofsted’s judgements into further doubt.”
