BASC Scotland Gamekeepers’ Day

BASC Scotland Gamekeepers’ Day

More than 100 gamekeepers and deer stalkers from across Scotland are expected to attend the 16th annual BASC Scotland Gamekeepers’ Day at Scone Palace in Perthshire on 7th March.

The event will allow gamekeepers and stalkers to discuss issues affecting their professions.

High on the agenda are conservation initiatives which involve gamekeepers such as preserving the wildcat, the latest scientific advances in the crackdown on poaching, the control of invasive mink and digital mapping of species of conservation concern. Other topics include the introduction of vicarious liability, an update on snaring legislation and the implementation of the Deer Code.

Dr Colin Shedden, BASC Scotland director, said: “This event is important for gamekeepers and stalkers in Scotland. It will feature legislative updates and allow people to share best practice. It will also highlight important initiatives which they contribute to such as co-ordinated mink control schemes.

“Gamekeepers play an important part in safeguarding Scotland’s natural heritage and wild places and this event gives us an opportunity to thank them for their hard work throughout the year.

“We are also delighted that students from the three gamekeeping colleges in Scotland will attend, ensuring that the next generation of ‘keepers get a wide perspective on their future employment.”

A morning conference session will be followed by lunch, a sporting clay shoot and a fundraising raffle with a top prize of a day's off-road driving donated by Land Rover Experience Scotland.

BASC Scotland would like to thank the following sponsors for their support, making the event free of charge for BASC gamekeeper members:
