The three terrorists convicted earlier this week of a plot to detonate bombs on transatlantic airliners may have been radicalised at a mosque in London, it has emerged.

The mosque, in Walthamstow, follows the tenets of the Tablighi Jamaat, a division of Islam that many intelligence agencies suspect of increasing links to terrorism.

Twenty years ago the mosque was home, briefly, to the followers of Omar Bakri Mohammed, one of the first to sermonise about jihad, in Britain.

A number of mosques in the east London area are controlled by Tablighi Jamaat.

The terrorist trio were convicted of plotting to blow up seven transatlantic airliners in mid-air.
