Watchdog to investigate MP’s affair

Parliament’s watchdog will investigate the case of an MP who had sex with his mistress in the Commons on Remembrance Day last year.
The Labour MP has since apologised for falling “below acceptable standards”.
Nigel Griffiths, MP for Edinburgh South, was discovered by the News of the World and said he was “ashamed of his actions”.
“I am, of course, ashamed that my conduct did fall below acceptable standards,” he said.
“I have little recollection of the evening but that does not make it right.”
He is understood to have met the woman in his parliamentary office.
A Labour spokesman said: “This is a private matter, not a matter for the Labour party.”
While Mr Griffiths is not a frontbencher he is a prominent figure in the Labour party.
Gordon Brown was best man at his wedding, and he has held the posts of deputy leader of the Commons, construction minister and enterprise minister.
