The department, in Whitehall, perfromed badly for efficiency

Energy Dept has worst possible energy efficiency rating

Official assessments show the new Department for Energy and Climate Change has the worst possible rating for energy efficiency.

The full assessment has been revealed in new answers to parliamentary questions tabled by the Conservatives.

Contained in a Display Energy Certificate, the official assessment gave the new department’s headquarters in Whitehall a G rating and a score of 165; this is on a scale where 100 would be typical for similar buildings and lower ratings reflect better energy efficiency.

Shadow energy and climate change secretary, Greg Clark said: “It is very disappointing that the headquarters of the department charged with improving energy efficiency and tackling climate change should have such a poor record on efficiency.”

The department was set up by Gordon Brown during a reshuffle late last year.
