Video: Prescott response to custard attack

Former deputy prime minister John Prescott has launched a video response to the custard attack on Peter Mandelson.

The Hull East MP, who was once pelted with an egg by a demonstrator, took a hard line on the attack, suggesting the activists who threw the substance should have been arrested.

But commentators are wryly noting the difference in the response between Mr Prescott and Lord Mandelson.

When a man hit Mr Prescott with an egg in 2001, he responded by punching him repeatedly in the face, before being dragged away by his handlers.

Lord Mandelson, on the other had, made light of the incident, saying: “Whilst I’m prepared to take my fair share of the green revolution on my shoulders, I’m less keen on it in my face.”
