Tony Blair’s son has been hospitalised in Barbados, Downing Street has confirmed.

Euan, the prime minister’s eldest son, is being treated for a stomach complaint at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown.

Downing Street said the 22-year-old’s condition was not serious, and it is not thought that he will require any kind of surgery.

The family was due to return home today after a three-week holiday in Barbados, although Mr Blair delayed his flight out to work for a resolution to the Middle East crisis.

The prime minister will fly back to the UK today as planned, but his wife, Cherie, will stay with their son.

The couple have four children – Euan, Nicky, Kathryn and Leo. The latter was born in 2000, becoming the first child born to a serving prime minister in more than 150 years.

Euan has recently been working as an unpaid intern to a senator in the United States.
