Richard Burgon

Biography:

Richard Burgon was elected MP for Leeds East on May 7th 2015 with 20530 votes, taking 53.7% of the vote.

Richard studied at Cambridge University, where he was also Chair of Cambridge University Labour Club. Later he became a trade union lawyer, and his key interests are the wellbeing of workers and the creation of a more equal system. Richard is a Republican. Before swearing the mandatory oath of allegiance to Queen Elizabeth II, he declared to believe in a system where the head of state is to be chosen and elected by the people.

Born and bred in Leeds, Richard is the nephew of the former Labour MP Colin Burgon.
