Chris Evans

Biography:

Chris Evans was elected as Labour MP for Islwyn on n May 7th 2015 with 17336 votes, taking 49.0% of the vote.

Brought up in the Rhondda valleys, Chris was educated at Porth County Comprehensive, Pontypridd College and Trinity College, Carmarthen where I graduated with a history degree.

Upon leaving university, he worked in various roles, as a bookmaker, in a bank and at a university. In 2004 he was appointed as a full-time trade union official with the Union of Finance Staff.

For the past four years, he was been the parliamentary researcher to Don Touhig MP based in Pontllanfraith.

He has been a member of the Labour Party since he was 15 and held positions at every level of the party. He stood as Labour’s candidate in the 2005 General Election in Cheltenham. He is a member of Unite, the Fabians Society and the Co-operative Party.

In 2010, he replaced Don Touhig as the Labour candidate for the General Election.
