RHA: That was the reaction from the Road Haulage Association to Danny Alexander’s announcement on reduced fuel duty in remote areas

RHA director of policy Jack Semple said: “Fair Play for those who stand to benefit – but now we need to see Fair Play for everyone else in the country. The prospect of five pence off fuel duty in the most remote areas of the UK must be matched by the Chancellor abandoning the five pence extra set to hit everyone on April 1.

“Danny Alexander’s announcement, affecting a tiny proportion of the UK population, only serves to highlight the importance of fuel taxes and prices,” he said.

“Meanwhile, the price hauliers pay for bulk diesel has risen by another 1.72 pence in just one week, to set a new record high of 112.18 pence (ex VAT). That means another £700 a year on the cost of running one large truck, which must be passed on to customers and consumers,” Semple said.

Note to editors: Figures are from the latest RHA Weekly Fuel Price Survey result. The survey shows the national average price actually paid by hauliers for the week for bulk diesel. The price is published to members each Friday.
