Praise for passport service will be difficult to retain after cuts

Commenting on the Identity and Passport Service being named top national public service in a customer satisfaction survey, Public and Commercial Services union general secretary Mark Serwotka said:

“This is a tribute to Identity and Passport Service staff who have worked hard to provide quality services to the public against a backdrop of cuts and office closures.

“The plan to close the passport office in Newport in south Wales, criticised this week by a Commons committee, will mean this level of service will be irreparably damaged for the people of Wales.

“Coupled with management proposals to shut more than half of the agency’s interview offices, leaving customers worse off and putting the security of the British passport at risk, it will be difficult for IPS to retain this title in future years.”
