The Road Haulage Association has been part of the successful bidding team of the International Road Transport Union for an EU funded training project.

The project will assess the current training provision and training requirements across the EU, including the UK, and identify the needs and challenges of training mobile and non-mobile employees in road transport.

The findings of the review will be fed into the EC’s assessment of the transposition of the Driver Training Directive, towards the end of 2011.

“The role of the RHA will be to join the steering committee that will manage and evaluate the project, particularly sharing our expertise in terms of the practical implementation of Driver CPC driver training”, said RHA Director of Employment Affairs Ruth Pott.

“We are delighted to be participating in this important training initiative and look forward to seeing how other member states are managing the Driver CPC, how they will manage in 2014 if large numbers of drivers have not completed the training, and the implications of future driver skills shortages.”
