NASUWT: Cleeg declares he is not for turning on academies and free schools
Commenting following Nick Clegg’s address to the Liberal Democrat Conference, Chris Keates, General Secretary of the NASUWT, the largest teachers’ union, said:
‘This morning the Liberal Democrat Conference rightly passed a critical motion confirming its principled opposition to academies and free schools.
‘Unfortunately for Liberal Democrats everywhere, Nick Clegg this afternoon displayed the arrogance normally associated with the Tories and made it clear he is not for turning back on academies and free schools.
‘It is clear that for Nick Clegg, five seats around the Cabinet table are more important than the views of his members or the future of state education.”
