TUC honours PCS young rep for recruiting new members

Responding to today’s (14 September) presentation of the TUC youth award to Public and Commercial Services union rep Debbie Mallet, PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said:

“We are all very proud of Debbie who continues to work tirelessly to recruit colleagues to our union and show that we are stronger when we stand together. “As well as fighting for the rights of some of the most vulnerable workers in our society, she is an energetic campaigner and an excellent trade unionist. “This is particularly pleasing for PCS, as one of our other young reps Helen Flanagan won this award last year.”

Notes

– Debbie lives in Bonnybridge, near Falkirk, in Scotland, and works for HM Revenue Customs. She has been an active member of PCS for the past four years and played a key role in recruiting 250 new members to the union during the HMRC call centre dispute in 2009 and helped to win major concessions for call centre staff on flexible working. Debbie’s proudest achievement has been to set up training for young members to become more involved in the union. In her spare time, Debbie also attends anti BNP rallies.
