Appointment of the NASUWT deputy general secretary

The National Executive of the NASUWT, the largest teachers’ union, has today decided unanimously to appoint Patrick Roach, the current NASUWT Assistant General Secretary, to the post of Deputy General Secretary.

Chris Lines, NASUWT National President, said:

“I am delighted with his appointment. Having worked with Patrick for over twelve years, I have seen at first hand the quality of his work and commitment to the NASUWT.

“I believe that he will bring to the post a suite of formidable talents to the post of Deputy General Secretary at a time of great change in the education system.”

Chris Keates, NASUWT General Secretary, said:

“Patrick has already made an outstanding contribution to the work of the NASUWT.

“The unanimous decision of the National Executive today was a clear acknowledgement of Patrick’s undoubted talents and abilities, the respect he commands within the NASUWT and beyond and his commitment to the teaching profession, the education service and the trade union movement.

“I know that he will be a highly effective champion of the school workforce and the NASUWT and I very much look forward to working with him in his new role.”
