NASUWT comments on the BNP manifesto
Responding to the launch of the British National Party (BNP) manifesto, Chris Keates, General Secretary of the NASUWT, the largest teachers’ union, said:
“Any intelligent and right-minded person witnessing the sickening spectacle of today’s launch of the BNP general election manifesto will be disturbed, reviled and horrified.
“Only this week, the BNP have been threatened with legal action for misappropriating highly respected brands in their attempt to dupe the electorate about their vile racist agenda.
“The launch of their manifesto on St George’s Day is a deliberate attempt by the BNP fascists to hijack national events, institutions and symbols which are the hallmark of our inclusive and multi-racial society in which people of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds should be respected.
“The BNP wants young people to take pride in their British history, traditions, identity and origins but have again today committed the fatal error of failing to recognise that St George was an immigrant to Britain’s shores.
“The BNP’s manifesto is a charter for extremism and should be rejected.
“The BNP’s commitment to racial apartheid knows no bounds.
“The BNP’s objective to prevent the promotion of racial integration, equality and diversity in schools and the wider society, together with their policy for forced repatriation, would be a recipe for discrimination, exclusion, bigotry and injustice.
“No one should be fooled into thinking that the BNP wants equality for anyone they define as British.
“The BNP’s warped policy to provide segregated schooling for young people from an early age would damage the life chances of thousands of ordinary young people.
“At this General Election the country should vote for hope, not hate, and take a stand against BNP racism.”
