NASUWT: Schools should be investing more in professional development

Responding to the latest Ofsted report, Good professional development in schools, which highlights the importance of teachers’ career development, Chris Keates, General Secretary of the NASUWT, the largest teachers’ union, said:

“This is a helpful report.

“It underlines what the NASUWT has been saying for years that teachers need access to high quality, continuing professional development.

“What is absent still from too many schools is a proper professional dialogue between teachers and their managers to identify training and development needs.

“This Ofsted report will be very helpful if it drives schools to consider these important issues.

“Schools should be investing more not less in the professional development of the workforce.”
