NASUWT: Chair of headmasters’ conference”nakedly touting for trade”.

Responding to the reported comments of Andrew Grant Chair of the Headmasters’ Conference who apparently expressed ‘irritation’ that some parents are not choosing to spend their income on private education and effectively defining state schools as the ‘home’ of those living on council estates, Chris Keates General Secretary of the NASUWT the largest teachers’ union said.

“His comments are outrageous. They are nothing short of naked touting for trade.

“It is a disgrace that he adopts such a prejudiced and stereotyped stance which denigrates not only the thousands of hardworking people who live on council estates but also state education itself.

“His clear message is that if your children are worth anything you would send them to a private school.”

“The simple truth is that state education is high quality and consequently, it is the sector of first choice for millions of parents.”
