Unite reaction to 510 Lloyds job losses

Unite has expressed disappointment at the news that 510 jobs are to be lost at the Lloyds Banking Group (LBG). This brings the total job losses at the group to nearly 3,000 since formation in January.

Unite, which represents staff at the bank, are opposed to the plan to close a site in Kent and restructure the community banking division.

Rob MacGregor, Unite national officer said: “Unite is extremely disappointed that the Lloyds Banking Group is to cut a further 510 roles. These latest job losses are yet another example of the weekly hammering that the workforce of the bank is having to endure.

“We have already seen over 2,400 job losses announced by the bank since it’s formation in January. Unite has made it plain that the union will not accept a situation where the LBG makes weekly announcements of hundreds of job losses. Staff must be told the company’s plans for the future of the organisation and not be left with the uncertainty that they could be the next to lose their jobs.”
