RHA: Hauliers go to Holyrood

This week hauliers in Scotland were given the chance to put forward their concerns about the current difficult state of their industry to Members of the Scottish Parliament at an evening reception. The next day RHA Scottish Director Phil Flanders and RHA board member Andrew Black, met with Finance Secretary, John Swinney and Iain Gray, leader of the Scottish Labour Party.

“Both Mr Swinney and Mr Gray were left in no doubt that haulage operators are facing a grim time at the moment”, said Phil Flanders, “and we were encouraged by their response. Actions to help that are within the power of the Scottish Government were discussed including funding for training and bringing forward capital spending to act as an economic stimulus.

“Mr Swinney was left in no doubt about the parlous state of hauliers’ finances and the need for targeted assistance – he fully appreciated the present difficulties and promised to consider what action the Scottish Government could take.”
