PCS: Union holds welfare reform meeting in Parliament
Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) will be joined John McDonnell MP and four other high profile speakers at a public meeting on welfare reform on Tuesday 21 October.
The meeting from 3-5pm in the House of Commons Committee Room 11 will also hear from, Kate Green, Child Poverty Action Group, Phil Davies, GMB national secretary, Richard Exell from the TUC and Colin Hampton of the Unemployed Workers Centre Combine.
The meeting comes the day before the consultation on the government’s controversial welfare reform green paper comes to end. The proposals have provoked widespread opposition which include a harsher benefits regime for a range of service users, including lone parents, unemployed workers and disabled people.
The government also propose to extend the privatisation of core employment service provision using a business model called ‘right to bid,’ as well as paying contractors by results.
The meeting is an opportunity for all those who share our concerns on the green paper to come together in a united response.
