PCS: Eve of TUC press conference – Sunday 7th September

The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) will be launching its new Youtube video on the impact of the government’s public sector pay policy, as well as outlining the next stages of its national pay campaign at a press conference on the eve of TUC Congress in Brighton this Sunday (7 Sept).

Sunday’s press conference starts at 12:45pm in the media room of the Brighton Conference Centre and will be hosted by Mark Serwotka, PCS general secretary and Janice Godrich, president of PCS.

The union will be highlighting its motions to this year’s TUC on pay, as anger mounts over the government’s policy to cap public sector pay below inflation, which is resulting in growing industrial unrest across the civil and public services. The union has also tabled motions on tax justice and an emergency motion on the government’s recent welfare reform green paper.

Other key times during the week include:

* Monday morning – Speech by Mark Serwotka in the public sector pay debate.

* Monday evening * TUC fringe: Speak up for public services, fair pay for public servants. Mark Serwotka will be speaking at the fringe which starts at 6pm in the Empress and Alexandra Rooms, Grand Hotel, Brighton.

* Tuesday afternoon * Economic affairs debate and PCS motion on tax justice.

* Wednesday evening * PCS fringe: Protecting the welfare state, 5.30pm, Renaissance Room Thistle Hotel, Brighton. Chaired by Janice Godrich, PCS President, with speakers, Mark Serwotka, PCS general secretary, Kate Green, Child Poverty Action Group and Phil Davies, National Secretary – Manufacturing Section GMB.

Note some of the timings for the debates may change.
