RHA: October 1 sees new era for Statutory Fees

The road haulage and insurance sectors have welcomed the government decision to bring in an all-new statutory charging system for vehicle recovery on October 1.

The new regime will bring clarity and fairness to charges paid when vehicles are removed after an accident or breakdown on the instruction of the police.

The Road Haulage Association, the Freight Transport Association and the Association of British Insurers said in a joint statement: “The new system is urgently needed and we are pleased that Home Office minister Vernon Coaker has set the date for October 1.

“We have detailed issues to finalise concerning interpretation of the regulations but that will not delay the process, which has taken several years of hard work by all concerned.”

RHA chief executive Roger King said: “This is an excellent outcome for the haulage industry and for the recovery sector, which has been working with a wholly unrealistic fees schedule for many years. The RHA Rescue and Recovery Group made an invaluable contribution to the consultation process with the Home Office, providing a detailed and fully-costed submission that was fully approved by our road haulage members.
