CIOB joins building control alliance.

The Building Control Alliance (BCA) has appointed the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) to formally sit alongside the four organisations that represent and deliver the current building control system.

The CIOB joins the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Association of Building Engineers (ABE), the Association of Consultant Approved Inspectors (ACAI) and Local Authority Building Control (LABC).

Kevin Dawson Chair of the CIOB’s Building Control and Standards Faculty said, “We are delighted to have been asked to join the BCA and have the opportunity to work alongside the Government to strengthen and develop the Building Control system, which is integral to the construction industry.”

The BCA has recently published a report, A Building Control System for the 21st Century, which contains key recommendations on what the Government needs to do to improve the building control system.

The report, a response to the Department of Communities and Local Government’s (CLG) discussion paper, highlights areas where change should be a priority and includes – self certification, prior approval and the building notice system.
