Westminster security tightened amid terror fears
Amid increased fears of terror attacks, security services have stepped up surveillance around the Houses of Parliament.
Concrete road blockers will be installed on roads around the Palace of Westminster during the nine-day nine-day Whitsun recess that begins on Friday.
Lord Brabazon of Tara, chairman of the House of Lords administration, who announced the security arrangements in a written reply, said security ‘remains under constant review in the light of the changing assessment of the terrorist threat.’
One parliamentary official added: “The newly placed concrete blockers in front of parts of the Palace of Westminster are part of the enhanced physical security measures for the Houses of Parliament.
“They form part of a more general strengthening of security being carried out in central London on a precautionary basis in the light of world events, and action being taken in other countries similarly under threat of terrorist attack.”
