Bomb explodes at Yale University
The FBI has confirmed that an ‘explosive device’ went off in a classroom at Yale University’s law school.
The blast comes at a worrying time for George W. Bush’s administration. It has already raised its terror alert status to ‘high’ from ‘elevated’ amid fears that terrorist network al Qaeda is preparing to strike the US.
Speculation that the bomb was planted by international terrorists has proven unwarranted. An official said evidence suggested the explosion did not ‘indicate or bear the marks of an international terrorist incident.’
George W. Bush was in Connecticut, New Haven on Wednesday to deliver a speech to the graduates of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, 50 miles from Yale.
In the speech, President Bush vowed continued vigilance against international terrorism.
‘We will deny the terrorists the sanctuary and bases they need to plan and strike, as we have done in the battle of Afghanistan,’ he said.
‘We will not permit terrorist organisations or states to blackmail the world with weapons of mass destruction, as we have shown in the battle of Iraq.’
Mr Bush is a graduate of Yale and one of his daughters, Barbara, is finishing her first year there.
It is thought no one was hurt in the incident.
