Graham Brady

Biography:

Graham Brady was re-elected MP for Altrincham and Sale West on May 7th 2015 with 26771 votes, taking 53.0% of the vote.

Graham was born in Salford in 1967. He was educated at Altrincham Grammar School and Durham University where he studied law. Prior to his election in 1997 when he became the youngest Conservative MP at that time, he was Public Affairs Director of the Waterfront Partnership. He had previously worked at the Centre for Policy Studies and Shandwick Plc. Graham is married to Victoria whom he met at university and they have a daughter and a son.

Educated locally himself, Graham is a strong supporter of Altrincham and Sale’s excellent schools to which he is a regular visitor.

Graham is a Vice-President of Greater Altrincham Chamber of Commerce and a Vice Patron of Friends of Rosie, a charity raising funds for research into childhood cancers. He is an active supporter of several local charities.

Graham enjoys gardening but likes to spend as much spare time as possible with his children.

In November 2003, Graham was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition. From September 2004 to May 2007, he was Shadow Minister for Europe.

From 2001 to 2003, he was Shadow Minister for Schools. In the previous Parliament he was opposition spokesman on Employment, following periods as a Whip and as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the then Chairman of the Conservative Party, the Rt Hon Michael Ancram.

Prior to his promotion to the front bench, Graham was an active back bencher serving on the Education and Employment Select Committee as well as the Conservative Party’s 1922 Executive Committee.

Graham first became involved with the Conservative party when, aged 16, he joined the campaign to save the local grammar schools. He was Chairman of Durham University Conservative Association (1987-1988); Chairman of Northern Area Conservative Students (1987-1989); a member of the Conservative Party’s National Union Executive Committee (1988-1989); Vice-Chairman of East Berkshire Conservative Association (1993-1995).
