Helping prevent vehicle crime

Preventing vehicle related crime in car parks, the safer parking scheme has reduced the costs to the economy by half.

Script

The Safer Parking Scheme is a national standard aimed at reducing crime and the fear of crime in car parks.

The scheme has proved increasingly popular over the last decade – with one in four car parks – that’s around 5,000 – now Park Mark awarded.

During that time it has reduced the cost of vehicle crime in car parks by half.

But since 2012 twenty five local authorities have left the scheme citing budget cuts and 300 car parks have been withdrawn.

Statistics for the same period show vehicle crime in car parks has risen from 8% in 2012 to 14% today.

Vehicle crime in car parks costs households in England & Wales £1 billion a year, yet it costs a typical local authority just over £2,000 a year to be in the scheme – that’s just £200 per car park.

Park Mark awarded car parks are proven to be safer places they attract people to high streets and cultural centres, which in turn supports the local economy.

So help prevent vehicle crime. It costs a little, but saves a lot. Support Park Mark.
