Our vision for a prosperous, poverty-free society
We are the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Our vision is for a prosperous society where everyone can live free from poverty.
Today, 13 million people in the UK don’t have enough to make ends meet. Half live in a working family.
But this is not inevitable. We can do something about it.
We take our inspiration from the Rowntree family, who created a successful chocolate business from York. They realised that fair wages, good conditions and decent homes would benefit everyone.
They tasked us with uncovering the root causes of poverty and social evil.
Today we are an independent research, policy and practice organisation working to inspire social change.
You might know about us from our work on minimum income standards. Through the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, we also run a housing association and provide care services.
We are… care workers, housing developers and managers, partners, plumbers, policy analysts, gardeners and influencers.
