Rupa Huq

Biography:

Rupa Huq was elected MP for Ealing Central and Acton on May 7th 2015 with 22002 votes, taking 43.2% of the vote.

Rupa stood as a candidate for the Labour Party in the European Parliament election in the North West in 2004, as the Labour parliamentary candidate in the safe Conservative seat of Chesham and Amersham in Buckinghamshire in the 2005 general election and as a candidate in Walpole in the constituency of Ealing in 2010, but all her attempts were unsuccessful. In 2010 she became deputy Mayor of the London Borough of Ealing for the municipal year 2010/2011. Her campaign for the 2015 UK general election has been supported financially by Lord Matthew Oakeshott, the former Liberal Democrat.

Prior to her public commitment, she has been a lecturer at University of Manchester and Kingston University, and wrote for, amongst other newspapers, Tribune, The Guardian, New Statesman, Progress magazine and The Times Higher Education Supplement.
