Peter Dowd

Biography:

Peter Dowd was elected MP for Bootle on May 7th 2015 with 33619 votes, taking 74.5% of the vote.

Peter’s political career started in 1981, when he became a Merseyside County Councillor, a role he covered until 1986. In 1991 he was elected to Sefton Council. In 2008 Peter became leader of Sefton Labour Group of Councillors, and since May 2013 he has been Leader of Sefton’s first ever Labour controlled Council.

Born and bred in Bootle into a large working class family, Peter has two great uncles who have been Labour MPs, Simon Mahon and Peter Mahon.
