Owen Paterson

Biography:

Owen Paterson was re-elected MP for North Shropshire on May 7th 2015 with 27041 votes, taking 51.4% of the vote

After the formation of the coalition he became Northern Ireland secretary.

Born in 1956, Owen is married with three children. He was educated at Radley College, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and the National Leathersellers College, Northampton.

He joined the British Leather Company in 1979, becoming Sales Director in 1983 and Managing Director in 1993. He speaks French and German fluently and has travelled all over Europe, Asia and North America to sell his product. From 1996-98 he was President of COTANCE, the European Tanners’ Confederation.

He is a Director of the Institute of Orthopaedics, Gobowen and was Chairman of the Management Committee Institute of Orthopaedics, Gobowen, 1995, in charge of the building of the Leopold Muller Arthritis Centre, which opened in 1997.

Owen was PA to John Biffen in the 1987 General Election and stood as the Parliamentary Candidate himself for Wrexham in 1992. He was elected to Parliament as the member for North Shropshire in May 1997.
