Lucy Powell

Biography:

Lucy Powell was re-elected MP for Manchester Central on May 7th 2015 with 27772 votes, taking 61.3% of the vote.

Lucy was first elected Labour and Co-operative MP for Manchester Central in a by-election on November 15th 2012, marking the record of being the first female Labour MP to represent a Manchester constituency in Parliament. During the legislature, Lucy campaigned against the Government’s cuts to Manchester public services, the privatisation of the ambulance services and the Bedroom Tax. Before starting her political career, Lucy led a major investment project in Manchester for NESTA, a UK’s agency, and worked with local businesses and other partners to support start-ups and companies. This investment programme brought over £10million to her city.

Born in Manchester in 1974, Lucy studied Chemistry at Oxford University and King’s College London.
