Laura Sandys

Biography:

Laura Sandys was elected as Conservative MP for South Thanet on May 6th 2010 with a majority of 7,617.

Laura started work at 17 and had set up her first business by the time she was 19.

Subsequently, she has set up and sold two small companies that specialised in campaigning, communications and marketing.

As a Research Associate at the Centre for Defence Studies, she worked with the Ministry of Defence during the war in Iraq.

Laura did a Masters Degree at Cambridge and an Open University module on Environment and Development.

Laura is an active volunteer and was Deputy Chairman of the Civic Trust. She was also a Trustee of Open University.

Recently she was appointed President of the Kent Federation of Amenity Societies.

Laura was a member of David Cameron’s Democracy Taskforce. She was also a member of the Quality of Life Taskforce.

She has been working with the Conservative Defence Team on Energy Security and she speaks regularly on issues relating to small businesses; care of the elderly; education; and defence policy.

Since becoming an MP she has been elected onto the energy and climate change select committee.
