Kirsty Blackman

Biography:

Kirsty Blackman was elected MP for Aberdeen North on May 7th 2015 with 24793 votes, taking 56.4% of the vote.

Kirsty first active duty as a politician started in 2007, when she was elected Councillor in the Aberdeen City Council election, topping the poll in her ward with 1,761 first preferences. She was re-elected in 2012, with 823 first preferences taking the second seat in the ward.’<' . strtolower('Array')>

She currently holds the post of Convener of SNP Group in Aberdeen City Council and has held posts as the council’s spokesperson for Education and the convener of the authority’s Licensing Committee. She has spoken out about the needs of children in looked after care and lack of nursery places in the city.

Kirsty was educated at Robert Gordon’s College. She has a brother, John West, was also elected for the Hazlehead/Ashley/Queens Cross ward in 2007.
