John Bercow

Biography:

John Bercow has been MP for Buckingham since 1997. He has been a member of the International Development Select Committee. He has previously been Conservative Opposition Spokesman for Education and Employment, Work and Pensions, and Home Affairs. He has also served as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Shadow Secretary of State for International Development. In 2005 he was The House Magazine’s ‘Backbencher of the Year’. In September 2007, John was appointed by Ed Balls, Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, to lead a review of services for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs. The final report of the Review was published in July 2008.

In June 2009, John was elected Speaker of the House; in 2010 he joined the Speaker’s Committee on the Electoral Commission and the Speaker’s Committee for the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.
