Jane Ellison

Biography:

Jane Ellison was re-elected as Conservative MP for Battersea on May 7th 2015 with 26730 votes, taking 52.4% of the vote.

Jane has lived near Clapham Junction in Battersea with partner John for many years, and until the 2010 General Election used to work for John Lewis. She was selected as Battersea’s Conservative candidate in an ‘Open Primary’ meeting at Battersea Arts Centre on 27th September 2006.

Born in Bradford in 1964 Jane went to school there and then read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford. She joined John Lewis from university. Jane managed the John Lewis customer magazine, after ten years of managing JLP’s customer direct marketing.

She has served as a local councillor on two separate occasions in the London Borough of Barnet where she lived before moving south of the river. Jane has stood for Parliament before; at the 2005 General Election she contested Pendle.

She served for many years as a housing association board member and is a school governor of Honeywell Junior and Infants School, Battersea. She is a member of the Battersea Society and a Friend of Battersea Park.

Jane is a national trustee of the music charity Sing for Pleasure (SfP), having been seconded to SfP for six months in 2004. She co-founded and organised the Mill Hill Music Festival and she sings with a chamber choir, The Cavendish Singers.

In 2013 Jane was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Public Health by David Cameron.

Jane is a member of the Backbench Business Committee, Co-Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Retail Group and Vice Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Australia and New Zealand Group.
