Gordon Henderson

Biography:

Gordon Henderson was re-elected as Conservative MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey on May 7th 2015 with 24425 votes, taking 49.5% of the vote.

Gordon was born in the Medway Towns. He left school at 16 to work for Woolworths as a stockroom assistant in Chatham. He stayed for 15 years and was a senior store manager by the time he decided to move on in 1979.

Since leaving Woolworths, Gordon has done a variety of jobs, including running his own restaurant in South Africa, being a senior contracts officer for GEC Marconi (in Rochester) and a director of the Unwins Wine Group. He was Operations Manager of the UK’s largest manufacturer of alcoholic based gifts, which is based in Dartford.

Gordon is married to Louise and between them they have three children and seven grandchildren.

He was at one time the constituency agent for Thanet North MP, Roger Gale.

He was twice deputy leader of Swale Borough Council and was also a Kent County Councillor, during which time he sat both on the Education Committee and the Kent Police Authority.

Gordon has been involved in the local community as an instructor in the Army Cadet Force, as a director of the SWIM training centre (Sittingbourne) and as a school governor at Eastchurch Primary School (Sheppey) and the Cheyne Middle School (Sheppey).

Gordon was the Conservative candidate in Sittingbourne & Sheppey at the 2005 General Election.
