Biography:
Diana Johnson was re-elected MP for Kingston upon Hull North on May 7th 2015 with 18661 votes, taking 52.8% of the vote.
She was a local authority councillor from 1994 to 2002, chairing the Social Services Committee for several years. In 2003, she became a London-wide Assembly member on the Greater London Authority.
In February 2004, she was selected as Labour’s candidate in Kingston upon Hull North. She was elected to be Member of Parliament for Hull North – and Hull’s first female MP – on May 5th 2005. She was appointed as a Private Parliamentary Secretary to Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP in Autumn 2005 and in July 2007 she became an assistant government whip, with responsibility for the Cabinet Office and the Minister for Women.
Her particular areas of interest as the MP for Hull North are tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, raising education standards in our secondary schools, improving the public health of the city and the overall economic regeneration of Hull.
