Derek Thomas

Biography:

Derek Thomas was elected MP for St Ives on May 7th 2015 with 18491 votes, taking 38.3% of the vote.

Derek served as Penwith District Councillor. At the 2010 general election, he contested St Ives, coming 1719 votes behind the Liberal Democrat incumbent Andrew George, whom he subsequently defeated in 2015.

Born in 1972 in West Cornwall, he studied in South London and then returned to West Cornwall to be a development manager for Mustard Seed, a voluntary organisation in Helston, Cornwall and Chapel Street Methodist Church, Penzance. He later started his own small construction business.
