Debbie Abrahams

Biography:

Debbie Abrahams was re-elected MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth on May 7th 2015 with 17529 votes, taking 39.4% of the vote.

Debbie was first elected in January 2011, and the 2015 general election has seen her increasing her majority to 6002. From June 2011 to March 2015 Debbie was a member of the Work & Pensions Select Committee, and asked for an indipendent inquiry into the Government’s punitive New Sanctions Regime. She also led, amongst others, the campaign “Be Fair – Pay on Time”, resulted in late payments to small businesses being included in the 2014 Small Business Bill.

Debbie is particularly interested in tackling inequalities: beside campaigning for a fairer society, she set up the Oldham Fairness Commission to guarantee a more equal system in her own constituency.
