Dawn Butler

Biography:

Dawn Butler was elected as Labour MP for Brent Central on May 7th 2015 with 29219 votes, taking 62.1% of the vote.

Prior to becoming MP for Brent Central, Dawn has been the MP for Brent South from 2005 to 2010. On 24 October 2006 she was appointed Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Youth Affairs, and she is an Honorary Vice President of the British Youth Council. After Gordon Brown became Prime Minister, on 27 June 2007, Butler was made one of the Labour Party’s six Vice Chairs, with particular responsibility for Youth issues. Between 2009 and 2010 she has been Minister for Young Citizens and Youth Engagement.

Dawn worked as an officer of the GMB Union, including time as a national race and equality officer. She was also an adviser to the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone on employment and social issues.
